Many Connecticut parents have dealt with child support issues. We would think that celebrities wouldn’t have to battle over these kinds of issues. Many are worth millions of dollars, and it’s easy to think that they should have the money to pay child support for their children, right? Many celebrities have been embroiled in child support battles, and rapper DMX is one of them. He has finally settled a $1 million case stemming from 10 years of nonpayment.
DMX was originally taken to court in 2012 for his failure to pay child support for his 11-year-old daughter. He was unable to obtain a passport to go on tour, but now that the case has been settled for an undisclosed amount, DMX is now on tour to earn money for his child support payments.
However, the rapper’s child support woes are far from over. He has 11 other children with multiple women, so it’s possible he could face other lawsuits in the future. DMX does claim that he is a good father and takes good care of all of his children.
Failure to pay child support can result in many penalties. A person can have a passport or professional license taken away. He or she can even be jailed, although that is typically a last resort.
It is important that parents follow their support agreement and make payments every month on time. If they lose their job or end up making less money and cannot make payments as agreed, then they need to discuss child support modification with the court. Simply refusing to pay child support just makes the situation worse.
